1. Choose one clear main subject

Photos are easier to read when the eye immediately knows what the picture is about. A face, a couple or a pet should be clearly separated from the rest of the image. Very crowded scenes can lose clarity when converted into String Art.

2. Use good, even lighting

Well-lit faces normally preserve more useful detail. Avoid photos where important facial features disappear into deep shadows or where bright light washes out the subject.

3. Look for useful contrast

Contrast helps define the outline and important features of the subject. The goal is not maximum contrast everywhere, but a photo where the face, hair, clothing or silhouette does not blend into the background.

4. Make sure faces are large enough

A close portrait usually gives more usable detail than a person photographed from far away. For couple or family photos, choose an image where each important face is large enough to recognise easily.

5. Avoid blur and heavy compression
